Our purpose is to document the stories behind benefit concerts, explore how musicians use their platforms to support important causes, and preserve the history of memorable performances that brought artists and audiences together for something larger than entertainment.
The name of this website was inspired by Acoustic-4-A-Cure, the celebrated all-star benefit concert established by Sammy Hagar. The inaugural event was held at The Fillmore in San Francisco in May 2014, with Sammy Hagar and Metallica’s James Hetfield joined by artists including Billie Joe Armstrong, Nancy Wilson, Pat Monahan, Joe Satriani, and Scott Mathews. Funds raised through ticket sales supported the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
The Story That Inspired This Website
Acoustic-4-A-Cure demonstrated how an intimate musical performance could generate attention, funding, and hope for children and families facing serious illnesses.
Rather than presenting a conventional arena concert, the event became known for acoustic sets, unexpected collaborations, personal performances, and spontaneous jams. Its smaller venues allowed audiences to experience accomplished musicians in a more direct and unguarded setting.
Over subsequent editions, the concert welcomed performers from across rock, blues, folk, pop, and related musical traditions. The seventh annual event in 2021 continued supporting the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital while also benefiting MusiCares, the Festival of Children Foundation, and the Jesse Rees Foundation.
In 2023, the eighth Acoustic-4-A-Cure concert returned to The Fillmore. Sammy Hagar and Bob Weir were joined by Michael Anthony, Chris Isaak, Vic Johnson, Taj Mahal, Don Was, and Nancy Wilson for another sold-out evening benefiting pediatric cancer programs at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
